How (to get tickets): The event is now sold out. There will not be any tickets available at the door. Come back and join us in Spring 2014 – dates will be announced soon.

Every restaurant and farm will have a smiling face to greet you while you sample the tastings available. There will be 8 tastings in total, both savory and sweet. Larry Dunning has made food his art. Although formally trained in Vermont at the New England Culinary Institute, Dunning attributes his real education to working in places such as Jardiniere in San Francisco, Mustards in Napa Valley, Plumpjack in Squaw Valley, along with his travels through Europe in which Larry had the opportunity to work next to a few great chefs. Growing up on a family farm in Pennsylvania Dunning understands first hand the importance of hard work, paying attention to the seasons, and the fact that fresh really does make a difference.
But honing a craft requires more than experience and education. It requires imagination and playfulness, an understanding of quality, and a commitment never to cut corners. These are the elements that have carried Larry’s culinary profession into the realm of artistry. His former restaurants include Truffula in Tahoe City and Sezmu in Reno. Currently Larry owns and operates Bowl, Rawr, and is working on a cookbook in collaboration with acclaimed food photographer, Nissa Quanstrom.

The Electric Blue Elephant is a kitchen on wheels created by a collaboration of minds and hearts in the goal of nourishing people with truly good food;  food that is tasty, complicated, beautiful and full of energy and health benefits. We love good food and the way it makes us feel when we eat it. Our journey has naturally led us to share our love of good food with you.

Sarah Landau has been in the kitchen since she could walk and has worked at many eclectic restaurants in New York, Washington and the Tahoe area. She is passionate about providing food for people who couldn’t previously go out to eat. Kelly Eckel bakes organic whole wheat sourdough and gluten-free teff breads for our sandwiches on the truck and for local retail stores. His wheat breads are made using a sourdough starter instead of active yeast which makes the bread easier to digest, more delicious, and  they stay fresh longer. Katie DiLibero is a certified raw food chef and strives to make the menu come alive with living foods. None of this would be possible without Richard Selden, who had the dream and works day and night to make it our reality. Ram is our resident baby taster. We don’t sell anything that he won’t eat.  All the food is hand made with premium mostly organic and locally sourced ingredients and a heaping spoonful of love of course.

Homage is Reno’s Premier Boutique Bakery, specializing in heirloom pastries, desserts, and the finest espresso and coffee drinks. Every item is handcrafted, true artisan workmanship using only the finest ingredients with no preservatives or artificial flavors. Baking in small batches allows us a certain production flexibility, which means that on a day-to-day basis, there may be some inspired and spontaneous baking going on in our kitchen. Whenever possible we source our ingredients locally and seasonally.

Ceàgo produces premium world-class wines from estate grown Organic and Biodynamic grapes. Ceago concentrates on sound farming practices using Biodynamic and organic methods which balance the needs of the grape with the capability of the land to produce distinctive, high quality fruit.  The character of the grapes and the taste of our wines must be experienced to be understood and appreciated. We feel that our world class wines are a living testament to our strict but ultimately important farming standards. The vinegarden is located on an 163 acre farm on the northern shore of Clear Lake in Lake County.

 

Farms

Avanzino Farms

Located near the intersection of Rock Blvd and Mill St. Avanzino Farms has been providing produce to the Reno-Sparks area since 1925. The original 42 acres were purchased by Jack and Mina Avanzino and planted in a variety of vegetables. Starting in the early 1950′s, their son George grew the important crops of the time – potatoes and onions. Currently farmed by Doug Avanzino, the remaining 30 acres has returned to growing a variety of row crop vegetables for the local market. These include corn, squash, beets, carrots, cucumbers, potatoes and pumpkins. As the last remaining vegetable farm in Reno, Avanzino Farms stands as a reminder of the areas agricultural past.

Earth Alchemy Farm is committed to creating access to local, healthy, organically grown food, medicinal plants and heirloom seeds in the Reno area through urban farming and community participation.  River School Farm

The River School Farm is a working farm, landscape development enterprise, educational center and events venue. We are home to a dedicated group of individuals working to demonstrate, teach and advocate for sustainable living practices in the Truckee River watershed. We grow food year round in our gardens and around Reno. We design and construct landscapes that resonate with the high desert environment and create unique food growing spaces for community residents, schools and businesses. Located along the Truckee River, we offer an ideal space for community gatherings and we provide educational opportunities for local schools and students of all ages. We are super excited to host this event on our beautiful meadow along the Truckee River!

Urban Roots is a nonprofit dedicated to growing healthy minds, bodies & communities. An abandoned lot in Reno became a teaching farm in 2011 that now hosts school programs, continuing education for teachers, community workshops, and extends to school gardens across Washoe County. Additionally, Urban Roots is working with the University of Nevada to support agricultural research and Nevada’s high desert farming community.
